Our Story

Who We Are

St. Andrews Lutheran Church began in the midst of World War II. A group of people formed a church to share a message of hope with its community in a very challenging time, and more than eighty years later we are still seeking to inspire our community to live out the hope found in Christ.

We come from all kinds of backgrounds here. We are not perfect people and we all make plenty of mistakes. We know we all need grace: first from God and then from each other. We believe that the truth of God’s Word and the gospel of His grace is what changes our lives.

The Bible describes the global Church as the love and cared-for body of Christ, and as the cherished and treasured bride of Christ, and so we know we are not here for ourselves. We are here to serve our community and to freely share the love, the mercy, and the purpose that God has so generously given to us.

You Matter

Starting with You
God wants a relationship with you. With each of us. You matter more to Him than you can ever fully realize.

Here at St. Andrews we seek to help you get to know Jesus in a way that changes and transforms your life. We are here to help you take your next step on your journey of faith. That next step could be growing in worship and devotion to Him, growing in relationship with others, learning how to serve and give generously, finding healing from life’s hurts, or discovering your God-given purpose.

Your Family
We believe our youth and children are best served and mentored when they have multiple relationships with trusted adults in their lives. Our small groups and children’s, junior high, and high school ministries are structured to provide those opportunities and relationships where our children and grandchildren are mentored in life and faith.

We have groups of all ages meeting throughout the week to help you and your family grow in faith together.

Growing in Service
We believe God has uniquely gifted each and every one of us with gifts, talents, and opportunities that help us live out His purpose in our lives. We are here to help you find ways to learn, serve, give, and develop your unique potential.

We are also dedicated to serving our community and world. We follow Jesus in this, who personifies giving up of oneself in order to help others and heal the hurts of our world today. You are welcome to join us and learn the joy that “it is better to give than to receive.”

What We Believe

Our mission as a church is to bring the powerful grace, joy, and hope found in Christ to those who have little hope.  We believe the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the source of hope and strength in any and every circumstance. We desire to live out and share with our community the hope that has transformed our lives. Christ has inspired more love, compassion, courage, and healing than any figure in history.  He has changed us and we believe His love, mercy, grace, and healing power will change our city if we humbly, courageously, and graciously serve each other.

At St. Andrews, we are inspiring our community to live out the hope found in Christ. We strive to do this through abiding in Christ, acting in faith, and developing authentic relationships.

What Does Abide in Christ Mean? To Abide in Christ is to have a deep, personal connection to Him through the Holy Spirit. Our friendship with God grows through worship, prayer, time in His Word, and experiencing His grace and guidance every day as we Act in Faith. Connection with Jesus also deepens when we Develop Authentic Relationships with other believers.

Why Develop Authentic Relationships? When we Develop Authentic Relationships with other believers, we experience the trust, compassion, and forgiveness that comes from knowing Jesus. With deep friendships, we can “come as we are” and accept others for who they are, while encouraging and challenging each other to Abide in Christ and Act in Faith.

How Do We Act in Faith? Acting in faith is learning how to let the Spirit guide and empower us to do the works “God has prepared in advance for us to do.” Our faith grows through Abiding in Christ, Developing Authentic Relationships, and learning through experience that when we follow God’s leading, we can fully trust Him to provide everything we need.

St. Andrews is part of the greater Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, which you can learn more about here.
